New iPhone 2018: devices leaked?

New iPhone 2018: devices leaked?

Finally, a first look at the new iPhone models?

Ok folks, September is getting closer than ever and the Apple rumor mill is getting intense. Let’s get down to it!

We’ve already hinted at 3 possible models for the newest iPhone 2018 release, but now we’ve got rumored names! So far, this is the first time we’re getting potential names:

  • iPhone 9: the budget/entry level
  • iPhone XS (ten-S) or simply iPhone X (2018): the second gen iPhone X
  • iPhone XS (ten-S) Plus: the larger version of the iPhone XS

There’s also hands-on videos going around. One video is from EverythingApplePro coming from another known leaker Venya Geskin… complete with unwrapping/unboxing of 2 dummy phones.  (Bonus note: the iPhone 9 might get dual-sim functionality but just in selected countries).

Marques Brownlee (2019 title but it’s 2018 iPhones for sure) also got his hands on the dummy phones. In his video, he talks about how colors for the premium phones are reported to be Black, White and Gold.

Both videos talk about the iPhone 9 having an LCD display, a single rear camera, and slightly larger bezels to differentiate it from the premium phone models. Going back to colors, 9to5Mac also talks about a Gold version for the premium versions of the iPhone 2018. Apple may have also accidentally leaked some info of the iPhone X Plus and the upcoming iPad Pro on their iOS 12.

For the iPhone 9, there are 2 versions of what the colors will be. Ming-Chi Kuo predicts Gold, Grey, White, Blue, Red and Orange, while Macotakara goes for White, Black, Flash Yellow, Bright Orange, Electric Blue and Taupe. There’s also a leaked image that corroborates with the iPhone 9 look.

The rumored screen sizes so far are still the same (and these might be the final ones) coming from our previous blog. For all phones, the notch will stick around… yeah, buckle up for notches for the next few years as other phone manufacturers are also embracing this look. There’s still no confirmed news about an in-screen fingerprint display, but Face ID is looking at some potential upgrades (the specifics are yet to be determined).

So… how much longer until the announcement?

CNET has estimated important dates with the announcement being on September 12 and release date on September 21However, the budget friendly/cheaper iPhone 9 version may be released later around November due to manufacturing issues (said to be LED backlight leakage). While another delay we might be looking at is for the premium phones with the manufacturer of A12 chips is currently dealing with a virus.

As for the price, recent estimates coming from USA Today are from $800 to $1,100. With the recent Galaxy Note 9 release, this price range is becoming the norm, so it’s a wise decision to protect these pricey investments with premium accessories from Tech Armor.

iPhone X 2018: info from the rumor mill!

iPhone X 2018: info from the rumor mill!

New way to charge?

Only a month away and there’s been popular info coming from the rumor mill about Apple’s newest flagship phones and we’ve got that covered here!

Let’s get started!

iPhone X 2018 rumors

iPhone X 2018 rumors

First off, is the rumored 18-watt, USB-C charger added to the iPhone box along with the lightning cable. Like the lightning cables, it will require authentication/certification (rumored to be called C-AUTH). If uncertified, it may display a warning and limit charging speed on the iPhones.

The next batch of iPhones will be powered by the new A12 processors with better performance by 20% plus faster LTE data speeds and there will also be improved facial recognition through Face ID using the True Depth Camera.

Now another great topic for this round of rumors is that one of the phones from this batch (likely the larger “X Plus”) could feature dual-sim technology. If so, that’s a first for Apple since they’ve never offered a smartphone with dual-sim capabilities (only iPads). The eSIM will allow customers to easily switch between network carriers: U.S. carriers won’t be thrilled about this.

Another perk might for the iPhone X Plus might be a three-lens camera at the back. Don’t hold your breath here as this news is far from certain (it was grabbed from an unconfirmed iPhone X Plus rendering).

What can almost be confirmed from another known leaker, Ice Universe, is that screens for the 3 will be quite identical to one another… looking like the iPhone X.

Externally, the new and revived option from the previous iPhones will be new color options according to Ming-Chi Kuo. And that will be for the entry-level 6.1-inch LCD:  gray, white, blue, red and orange.

iPhone X 2018 rumors

So… when can you get one?

As of right now, estimated dates to remember are:

  • If the announcement date will be September 18-20, the release date may be September 28
  • If the announcement will be around September 25-27, the release date may be a little later on October 5.

That’s it for this rumor rundown for the iPhone 2018!

While waiting for the official announcement, let’s make sure your current devices are armed and safe from any drops, scratches and cracks! Our Tech Armor website and Amazon Storefront page are ready to help your smartphone and tablets stay charged too!

iPhone 2018: could these be it?

iPhone 2018: could these be it?

We’re getting closer to September folks!

Let’s get started!

One of the popular nuggets from the rumor mill is the new 3D mockup bought on Alibaba of the 3 phones namely the iPhone X, iPhone X Plus and the iPhone X SE (at least for the now) . From the looks of it, they are quite identical to the iPhone X, just slightly larger or smaller. In regard to the display, as previously rumored, the 6.1-in LCD for the budget friendly iPhone X SE will be coming from Japan Display Inc., while the 6.5-inch OLED display will be coming from Samsung; also apparently for the 2nd gen iPhone X too.

All 3 phones will reportedly have the new, signature TrueDepth Camera system used for Face ID (we may have to say goodbye to the Touch ID, folks)!

There have also been talks that the most expensive of the 3 (the iPhone X Plus) may have 3 rear-facing cameras for better picture quality and AR improvements.

Another interesting development we’re following is that these iPhones may be the first to be powered by Intel due to the ongoing debacle between Qualcomm and Apple. Inside will be the XMM 7560 chips (with CDMA support), which will finally allow iPhones to be available on all major carriers.

Rumors also still prevail for the Apple Pencil or “iPen” support for the iPhones which may be Apple’s response to phablets like the upcoming Galaxy Note 9.

And the expected fan favorite will be…

Apple and its pipelines believe it will be either the iPhone X Plus or the iPhone X SE. Korean Publication The Bell forecasts 45 million 6.46-inch panels will be produced for the iPhone X Plus, while the Wall Street Journal reports more than half of the total/global 2018 iPhone line will be coming from the LCD version… which is around 100 million.

Now for the elephant in the room…

Ming-Chi Kuo reports that there will be an “aggressive” pricing strategy for the iPhones this year due to the negative impact of the expensive iPhone X from last year as one of the reasons. Price range for the 2nd gen iPhone X will be at $800-900 while its larger sibling the iPhone X Plus will be around $900-$1,000. While the iPhone X SE will be around $600-700.

Okay, we probably have to talk about the iPhone SE 2 which is currently stuck in “will it or won’t it” limbo… and right now it’s on the “won’t it”. But we’ll keep you guys posted with this one too!

Bonus: there’s also been talks that Apple will be shifting to USB-C connectors that may start with the this year’s iPhones or with the 2019 line. But for now let’s take this with a grain of salt, as we learn more info about it.

There you have it folks! That’s it for this blog’s iPhone Rumors. While waiting for Apple’s announcement, make sure to keep your devices armed for any kind of drops, falls, scratches or battery failures when you need it the most.

iPhone 2018 Rumors: what’s new?

iPhone 2018 Rumors: what’s new?

The rumor mill doesn’t sleep folks!

Could the new iPhones set to release in 2018 be a bit cheaper this year? Will there be an iPhone SE 2 in 2018?  Let’s see what the rumor mill has to say about these!

Cheaper iPhone?

The 6.1-in LCD display device may be in the works now as Apple made a panel order with Japan Display. And according to Business Insider, this 6.1-in LCD is cheaper to produce, so this iPhone may sell for as low as $550 and as high as $650… that’s for a single-sim model. Yes folks, there may be a dual-sim standby option for this budget-friendly device in the works. But is expected to be a bit more expensive with $650-$750 price range.

What About the 2nd gen iPhone X?

Apple has been bargaining with Samsung to lower the cost of the OLED displays, in  hopes of lowering the cost of the next generation iPhones too. Apple’s has also had talks with LG for OLED display production though they are currently having difficultiesIf LG won’t be able fix the issues in time, Samsung would have the monopoly and firm control over the prices of the display…and the iPhones just like last year.

The 5.8-in OLED display model will be quite similar to the existing iPhone X. The 6.5-in display is the one that said to possibly have additional features like dual-sim card design and use of an “iPen” that may be similar with the Apple Pencil. ( A potential nod to the Galaxy Note series?)

A May or June iPhone release?

You read that right! As early as May or June 2018 (at the Worldwide Developer Conference), we may be seeing the iPhone SE 2! There’s been a pattern that after Apple registered devices on the Eurasian Economic Commision database, an announcement of those devices are not far afterFor those who are more into a way more budget friendly phone, this one’s especially for you! It’s said to be quite similar with its first generation, with Touch ID BUT without the headphone jack. (Don’t worry we have you covered there with our Lightning Earbuds.) For those with clumsy hands, be careful: the iPhone SE 2 may also have a glass backing.

Phew! Everything’s going glass….much more breakable!

We totally understand where you’re coming from… that’s why Tech Armor will always have your back! We’ll protect your iPhones from the daily wear and tear and those heart-stopping (and heartbreaking) drops and scratches!

Next iPhones: what’s new in the rumor mill?

Next iPhones: what’s new in the rumor mill?

Is there a cheaper iPhone X refresh in our midst?

Yes you read that right! Read on to learn more!

Digitimes reports that Apple managed to lower the production cost of a 5.8-inch OLED phone which will be the upgrade to the iPhone X. Because of the price reduction and evidently lower specs, this version might be positioned as the cheapest version in the batch instead of the 6.1-in LCD oneA key player for the lower production is that Samsung Display was left with a lot of OLED displays at their disposal due to less demand of the iPhone X. Apple then reached an understanding with the Korean giant so the price won’t rise on the panels.

For now this can mean one of 2 scenarios: Apple could keep the $999 price tag as the lowest or lower the price by around $100 to continue a price scheme similar to previous years. Originally, the cheapest rumored model in the batch, the 6.1-in was estimated to be around $800. Hopefully we get a lower price tag (fingers crossed!)

For those not a fan of the usual black and silver color options, we might also get a new color! The Cupertino-tech giant is rumored to be manufacturing a Bush Gold color for the device.

Leaked design for the iPhone X SE or iPhone SE 2?

There have been talks that the two are different devices…but there are also talks that they’re the same device (potato-potato pronunciation kind of matter). But as of now, it’s still a quite debate. A user from Weibo is rumored to have leaked the video of the iPhone SE 2. Looking from the video, it looks nearer to the 4-in display of the iPhone SE than the 6.1-in LCD display of the said iPhone X SE but with a refreshed design similar to the iPhone X (hello notch, goodbye Touch ID)BGR also got exclusive sketches that is pretty similar to the video. Macworld goes on to say that if there is to be and iPhone SE 2, it would mostly be available for lower-end markets. While there’s still the running theory that the iPhone X SE is the 6.1-in LCD

Although these rumors have been swirling around for months, we might get something new on March 27 when Apple goes to Chicago for a “field trip” . The topic up for discussion here will likely center on cheaper models of the MacBook and iPad, but we’re hoping for a little iPhone teaser too!

That’s about it for this rumor roundup! Tune in for the next one after Apple’s announcement.

Rumored iPhone Models for 2018

The latest rumors on the next iPhones: yes, not just one (or two)!

How many new iPhones will Apple launch?

It’s been just months since the iPhone X was launched and they’re already rumors about the next batch of phones!

Rise of the new design

So far, the rumor mill is going for 3 or at most 4 iPhones being released by Apple this year. There’s still no clear names so for now, let’s go with:

Of the 4 phones, the iPhone SE 2 is the most uncertain if it sees the light of day this 2018. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo report that should this push through, we’ll mostly just see internal updates like a faster processor.  If ever, a hardware change that we might see is a glass back for wireless charging like the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. And its release can be as early as May or June 2018.

The main reason is the California tech-giant’s focus is on the 3 other models to avoid last year’s shipment delay concerns. The iPhone X (2nd gen), iPhone X Plus and iPhone X SE are expected to be launched on September, Apple’s usual cycle on their smartphones.

We might have to say goodbye to the Touch ID as these 3 phones are said to feature the Face ID as they will be equipped with the TruDepth camera system.  The iPhone X (2nd gen) and iPhone X Plus will have 4GB of RAM and made with Stainless Steel Frame Material.

The iPhone X SE will represent the affordable version of the 3, having an aluminum frame material, single lens camera and uses LCD display. But LCD display that’ll be used may only require ultra-slim 0.5mm bezels on all sides!

Excited to see the new phones?! (But not really about the rising price…)

The prices are pretty wallet-denting (with the iPhone X at the $1,000 price range), but on the bright side, you don’t have to pay a flagship price for the best protection for your devices! As promised, Tech Armor will always be here to help you out!

We’ll always have the latest (like the iPhone X) to keep your phone safe from drops and scratches.;)

iPhone X: worth the wait and the risk?

iPhone X: worth the wait and the risk?

After the [very] long wait, it’s finally here! And the reviews are in too!

One of the biggest risks Apple went with for their anniversary phone is switching to Face ID from Touch ID. Plus concerns were raised. Was it worth it though?

Is the new phone worth denting your wallet over? Not to worry as we’ve got more info to help you out!

Pros of the phone?

Going back to the Face ID…overall it has good reviews so far! It works well when this reviewer brought it to Disneyland for a test run. While another did several face cover-ups and experiments and got good results. We tried ours out in the office with different hats and sunglasses and (so far) no issues! For many, this has been considered as a fine and perfectly workable replacement to the Touch ID (even better for many others!).

Another new feature we see is the OLED Display. The 5.8-in screen shows great black levels and color. Its 2,436 x 1,125-pixel resolution is also razor sharp. The iPhone X is by far the best screen on an iPhone.

iPhone X

While it’s also comfortable in the hand compared to the iPhone Plus phones. Overall, quite a perfect size with edge to edge screen.

There’s also the popular Animojis! It uses the iPhone X 3D-mapping sensors and ARKit with surprising accuracy and they are super fun.

iPhone X animojis

As advertised, the cameras are also better as they let you do much more than previous versions  with the 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with an f./1.8 aperture and the 12-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture.

What’s not so great about the new phone?

With an ultra-fast processor and several new features and gestures, the battery does take a hit. On battery life, 1 charge would just last you around a single day. (TA Note: we’ve got powerbanks and chargers to help you out there!)

Some may find the notch on top where the True Depth, 3D-sensor cameras are found a bit distracting with the whole screen experience (especially when using non-native apps that haven’t been adjusted for the screen yet).

And yes… obviously, cost! The iPhone X is expensive in every sense possible. The 64GB capacity costs $999 while the 256GB is priced at $1,149. Plus, if you break it, Apple can charge you around $549 for repair!!

And folks the iPhone X can easily break.

This review mentioned the chrome frame seems destined to get scratched and dinged, while CNET’s first drop test already showed a VERY visible (and painfully expensive to repair) damages on the phone. That’s just from pocket height or 3 feet. SquareTrade rated it as the most breakable, highest-priced, most expensive to repair iPhone, ever. Their face down drop test at 6 feet showed OLED screen malfunction, shattered and loose glass in the phone. And that’s just 1 drop.

iPhone X drop

And to put the icing in the cake, many people have already broken theirs in less than a few hours of having it.

I think the iPhone X is for me but the possible damages are SCARY.

If you want to go with the iPhone X, you never have to worry about drops and scratches as Tech Armor has you covered! Sure, you might have put down a little extra money for Apple Care or another insurance plan, but if you break it you still have to be without your phone while it’s being repaired. Why not shield it from drops and scratches?
